Capitalization

Growth takes capital, and capital favors the prepared. Because we already keep your financials accurate and your taxes in order, we can prepare genuinely funder-ready financial statements and help position you for the right capital when you need it.

When clients come to us

Your books are behind.

Missing months or unfiled returns can make a healthy organization look risky to lenders or disqualify you from timely grant funding.

You’re ready to scale.

A new market, a key hire, new equipment, or a location of your own. Lender-ready financials and a clear plan for where to apply help you move faster without straining your cash flow.

You were offered an advance.

Merchant cash advances are often repaid daily and cost far more than conventional lending in the long run. They are not loans, and they are rarely your only option.

Disorganized financials lead to denials or push otherwise good businesses toward expensive options.

Organized financials lead to better terms, larger amounts, faster approvals.

The best time to get your financial house in order is before a lender ever sees it.

What lenders look for

Before a responsible lender says yes, they usually want to see:

  • Recent business and personal tax returns, filed and complete
  • A current profit and loss statement and balance sheet
  • Bank statements that reconcile to your books
  • An entity in good standing, with its own EIN and business bank account
  • A schedule of the business debt you already carry
  • A business plan or strategic plan showing how the funds will be used and repaid
  • An annual budget with financial projections
  • Strong personal credit for owners and guarantors (funding after a bankruptcy is still possible)
  • For nonprofits: current financial statements and filed Form 990s

Wherever one of these is missing or out of date, that is the work we do.

Requirements vary by funding partner or financial institution. Applicants are subject to credit approval.

Funders want discipline, too.

Grantmakers look for the same things lenders do: clean financial statements, filed 990s, and a budget that reconciles to your books. We prepare the financial side, and our 30-In-30 Capital Program finds funding opportunities that match your mission.

Financial institutions set their own rates, terms, fees, and approval requirements and make their own credit decisions, and all applicants are subject to credit approval; BKD Advisors is not a lender and does not issue loan commitments or guarantee financing, approval, rates, or terms. You decide which options to pursue and you apply directly with the funder. If BKD Advisors would receive compensation from a third party in connection with your matter, we will tell you in writing before you proceed.
